Henna Artistry - Instructions for Brides
Before Application:
1. Bride's henna should be done 2 days before the wedding, a day earlier than the henna party, or earlier in the day of the mehndi/sangeet party before the guests arrive.
2. Do not exfoliate just before the henna application- we need as many layers of skin there to soak up the henna as possible.
3. Waxing or shaving should be done before the henna application. If you shave instead of waxing, make sure to shave lightly so that you do not get razor burn or get an open wound by cutting yourself.
4. Have your manicure/pedicure done before you get your henna done.
5. Lotions must be avoided before and 2-3 days after the henna application.
During Application:
1. Bridal henna can take anywhere from 2-6 hours depending on the designs chosen, so make sure that the bride and artist will have a comfortable place to sit. A table and 2 chairs are preferable.
2. During the bride’s henna application, please make sure that there are not many major distractions so that the artist can focus and keep her speed up. It is also very important for the bride to remain fairly still and relaxed when henna is applied. Make sure there is plenty of light for the artist to be able to see what she is doing.
*Bridal henna can be a long and tiring process for both the bride and the artist.
3. Bridal henna packages are chosen and finalized at a consultation over the phone, email, or in person. Any deviation from the design during application will also result in an adjustment of the price.
After Application:
1. Leave the paste on skin for minimum 8 hrs, maximum overnight.
2. Henna dries in half an hour and starts cracking and falling off. Lemon sugar solution can be sprayed on dried henna design to make it stay longer on skin.
3. Keep hennaed area warm by wrapping it with toilette paper or kitchen towel tightly and wear breathable warm socks over the wrapped hands. Make sure not be too warm that your hands and feet start sweating and design gets all smudged inside.
4. To take the paste off, never use water. Just scrape off the paste, apply some oil and keep the hennaed area dry and warm as long as possible.(If henna is stuck too hard to your skin, please wet it with vegetable oil and use butter knife to scrape it off. NEVER WASH HENNA.
5. The henna stain will be orange at first and goes on turning dark gradually until around 42 hrs. It will be dark reddish brown color in around 42 hours.
